Member Pam Drewell will talk to us about Antarctica, the southernmost continent on Earth, is a land of extremes and mysteries. It is the coldest, driest, and windiest continent, and it holds the record for the lowest temperature ever recorded on our planet. This vast ice-covered landmass is about 5.5 million square miles in size.
The biodiversity of Antarctica is particularly fascinating. While it may seem barren at first glance, life thrives in its waters and along its coasts. Penguins, seals, and a variety of marine life call this icy realm home. On land, however, the conditions are too extreme for most life forms, with only certain species of lichens and mosses able to survive.
