Rev John Parker of the Sweeney Hall

Edward Parry will talk about his book The Glories and the Wildness of North Wales which was recently published examines the life and work of the Rev. John Parker (1798-1860) of Sweeney Hall. Parker was an Anglican clergyman who was the incumbent of two rural parishes, Llanmerewig near Newtown and Llanyblodwel; he rebuilt both churches in remarkable styles. He was also an enthusaistic traveller, in particular to Snowdonia, and he recorded his journeys in journals and hundreds of paintings and drawings which are now held at the National Library, Aberystwyth.
