The walk today will cover approximately 3 miles, taking under 2 hours, but please note that it includes uneven paths, rocky sections, and some steep ground. Join us for our next planned walk in the village of Llangynog. This is a walk for those who enjoy a bit of a challenge, with difficult terrain and walking poles strongly recommended.
Llangynog lies at the meeting point of the Afon Eirth and Afon Tanat, surrounded by the dramatic landscape of the Berwyn range. It’s a place where nature, history, and tradition meet.
This route is not only rich in scenery, but also in heritage. The village once marked the end of the Tanat Valley Light Railway, and although the railway no longer runs, reminders of its past remain. Walkers will have the chance to enjoy sweeping views and learn a little about the village's history along the way.
As always, this Oswestry u3a walk offers good company, shared stories, and the pleasure of being out in the fresh air with others who appreciate the countryside.
Directions are - From Oswestry head west on the A483 towards Welshpool, turn right Llynclys crossroads, stay on the road as it continues as the B4396 Llangedwyn and, in Pen y bont fawr, take B4391 to Llangynog where the car park is on the right in the village. There are toilets there. Non-drivers are kindly asked to make a contribution of £2 per walk to help with fuel costs. This small amount helps support those who regularly offer lifts and ensures we can continue running our walking activities smoothly and fairly for all.
