Oswestry u3a Travel Group is pleased to offer a special theatre visit this October to the Stockport Plaza to see the famous rock musical CHESS. It is now 40 years since CHESS first opened in London’s West End, and it still holds a proud place in theatre history.
Written by the talented Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus from ABBA, with lyrics by Sir Tim Rice, CHESS tells a powerful story of love, rivalry and world events. Set during the Cold War, two chess champions compete for the World Championship. But the biggest struggle happens away from the board, as a woman becomes caught between them in a tense and moving story of loyalty, betrayal and politics.
The show includes well-known songs such as ‘I Know Him So Well’ and ‘One Night in Bangkok’.
This promises to be a memorable day out for members who enjoy music, drama, and the tradition of live theatre.
As part of our trip to the Plaza Theatre this October, we will be making a pleasant stop before the show at Notcutts Garden Centre. Members will have the chance to enjoy a pre-ordered lunch, which will be paid for locally on the day. Notcutts is a well-known and traditional garden centre, with a comfortable place to sit and enjoy a meal before our afternoon at the theatre. A lunch menu and full details of how to pre-order will be shared nearer the time, once arrangements are confirmed.
