Oswestry u3a is pleased to welcome Guy Marot for a fascinating talk. Drawing on his own first-hand experience, Guy tells the remarkable story of the project to clear every known minefield in the Falkland Islands between 2009 and 2020. He explains why the mines were laid during the 1982 conflict, where they were located, and the careful work needed to make the land safe again.
Through videos, photographs, and a collection of inert landmines and other genuine memorabilia, Guy brings this extraordinary operation to life. Members will gain a rare insight into the skill, patience, and teamwork involved in one of the world's most successful humanitarian mine clearance projects. Whether you have an interest in history, engineering, or the Falkland Islands, this promises to be an informative and memorable morning. This is part of the ongoing programme at Oswestry u3a, where members enjoy learning, sharing interests, and meeting like-minded people.
