Join Oswestry u3a Walking Group for a most enjoyable 4.5 mile walk exploring Llanymynech Rocks, an area rich in both history and natural beauty, right on the border of England and Wales. Rated Moderate.

We start our walk from the Nature Reserve car park. From here, we make our way up past the impressive Red Wall Rock Face — a striking reminder of the area’s quarrying past. In spring and early summer, this is the nesting site for birds. Out of season, it is a popular challenge for rock climbers.

After a short stop at the viewpoint, where we can enjoy the scenery, we continue upwards towards Llanymynech Golf Course. This unusual course is set across two countries — part in Wales and part in England! We’ll take a well-earned banana break beside the fairway, with lovely views all around us. Walking along the ridge, we enjoy fine views across the valley towards Llanyblodwel. We then begin our descent via the well-known "Jacob’s Ladder" — a steep but rewarding path back down the hillside.

Our return to the car park takes us along quiet lanes and paths, rounding off a varied and interesting walk.
