Oswestry u3a is pleased to welcome Douglas Wood, who will give an interesting talk about the National Garden Scheme. Douglas will explain how the scheme began and how it has grown to become a much-loved part of the British gardening calendar.

The National Garden Scheme gives people the chance to visit private gardens that are not normally open to the public, while raising money for charity. From small village gardens to large country estates, the gardens offer a chance to see a wide range of plants, styles and ideas. Douglas will share stories and information about some of the gardens involved, as well as the people who open their gardens to visitors. His talk will provide an insight into the work behind the scheme and the many volunteers who help make these garden visits possible. It should appeal to anyone who enjoys gardens, plants, local history or simply discovering new places to visit.
