This week's walk takes us from Pontfadog, up and around Brown Billy Hill, a distance of 4 miles. There are no stiles, but it has been classified as moderate because of the long steady climb upwards through woodland, and although most of the route is tarmac, some sections are rough track. The views are panoramic, across to the Berwyns on the way up, and across Shropshire, Wrexham and beyond on the way down
As we climb, the views open out across the Ceiriog Valley and towards the Berwyn hills, making the effort well worthwhile. Brown Billy Hill is not very high, but it offers wide views and a good place to stop for a rest and take it all in. Mostly tarmac but some rough tracks.
After our banada break, we make our way back down on easier paths, passing farms and small streams before returning to Pontfadog. It is a peaceful countryside walk with birdsong and fresh air throughout. Good boots are recommended, and a stick may help on the slopes.
Helen Shackell has agreed to lead this walk.
Exit Oswestry on the A483, at the Gledrid roundabout take the Chirk exit, B5070, just before you come into Chirk take a left on to B4500, follow the road to Pontfadog. Parking is in the Memorial Car Park, room for about 8 cars
