The area around Oswestry, including Queens Head, has been at the forefront of industrial heritage in the Welsh Borderland. This includes the development of local coal mines, canal systems, railways, tramlines, and mills. From the early 1800s onwards, the area saw significant industrial activity, including the quarrying of lime and the operation of numerous coal mines. The village takes its name from the pub, once on the busy London to Holyhead Road, A5 now bypassed. Our easy walk today features lanes and towpaths. About 3.6 miles less than 2 hours.
Take the A5 towards Shrewsbury, take the Queens Head turn. We will meet in the car park opposite the pub.
