Today we tackle a Moderate 4.5 mile walk with a couple of steep inclines and some rough terrain. Boots and sticks are essential. Trefonen, a charming village nestled in the Shropshire countryside, is steeped in history and natural beauty. With its origins tracing back to the 8th century, the village is a tapestry of historical and modern threads. It's home to the ancient earthwork of Offa's Dyke. The village's name, meaning 'village of the ash trees,' hints at the lush greenery that surrounds it, making Trefonen a picturesque spot walkers.
Starting from the Playing Field car park, we’ll walk along Bellan and Little London Lanes before cutting across a field and walking down to the ford and Trefonen Hall Farm on our way to climbing the Moelydd. A banana break at the top affords 360 degree views of the Shropshire plain, Breiddens, Long Mountain and north west towards the Berwyns. After our break it's all down hill back to Trefonen.
Sarah Solomon has kindly agreed to lead this walk
The walk start point is in the village car park on the left as you go into Trefonen, just past the speed limit sign and before you get to the church. It is by the playing field.
